The
Tampa Bay Storm, in partnership with Clear Channel, is teaming up with
nonprofit Cell Phones for Soldiers, Inc. and asking all fans to help our
troops call home by donating their gently-used cellular phones. With
each donation, Storm fans and Tampa residents can provide troops with
that precious connection to loved ones back home.
"The
Tampa Bay Storm always looks for new ways to get involved with the
military community," said Storm president Derrick Brooks. "Teaming up
with Cell Phones for Soldiers is an excellent way to keep our troops
connected with their loved ones."
Throughout
the month of May, fans and residents can donate their phones at the
McDonald'sî Ticket Office at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Fans will
receive a free Storm ticket voucher with each donation.
Donated
phones will be sent to Mindful eCycling for recycling. For every
donated phone valued at $5, Cell Phones for Soldiers is able to provide
two and a half hours of free talk time to deployed troops.
Approximately
half of the phones Mindful eCycling processes are reconditioned and
reused. Phones and components that cannot be refurbished are dismantled
and responsibly recycled to reclaim materials, including:
Gold,
silver and platinum from circuit boards Copper wiring from phone
chargers Nickel, iron, cadmium and lead from battery packs Plastic from
phone cases and accessories
This promotion will last through the month of May in honor of Military Appreciation Night on Saturday, May 25.
