LSFL League Meetings This Weekend

The Lone Star Football League second league meetings will be this weekend in San Antonio as the second season of the Lone Star Football League is set to start in March.
The meetings will start on Friday Jan. 11 and the final day of the meetings will be on Sunday Jan. 13.
The league meetings are the first opportunity for all the owners and the coaches to meet and work on growing the league. They will be working on matters such as modifications to the operations manuals and the rules on the field.

Alaska Football League Director Accepts GM Position In Lone Star Football League

Abe Hernandez, the Executive Director of the Alaska Football League, has formally accepted to become the new General Manager of the New Mexico Stars of the Lone Star Football League.
Hernandez has overseen the growth of the AFL, now into its sixth season, to an amateur semi-pro league in the beginning, to a true developmental and successful league in the present.
Said Hernandez, "The players in Alaska now have a pipeline to two potential professional teams, with San Angelo, Texas and now Albuquerque. With the opportunity to also have players play professionally in Europe, I feel very confident in the future of the AFL, this is exactly what I wanted to happen for our players. I also couldn't ask for better people to take over and continue the growth of the league. "
Commissioner Bob Lee, with the AFL for four years, will assume the title of "Executive Director." Lee has been involved in nearly every capacity in his tenure, and the change is in title only. Said Lee, "With the staff we have right now, the transition will be as smooth as it possibly could. We have very capable personnel who will continue their hard work and efforts."
Hernandez, who will remain as owner of the AFL, will travel to San Antonio on January 10 for league meetings, and will officially take over as G.M. of the Stars on January 14. The Lone Star Football League will have five teams in 2013, with the season starting in late March.
Hernandez was with the Alaska Wild of the Indoor Football League as a Defensive Coordinator and General Manager for four seasons, and has coached locally in Anchorage for 20 years.

LSFL Welcomes The New Mexico Stars

The New Mexico Stars will be joining the Lone Star Football League for the 2013 season.
The Stars are based out of the Albuquerque suburb of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. The Stars will again call the Santa Ana Star Center home. The team competed last season as a member of the Indoor Football League.

New Rio Grande Valley Team To Announce Membership In Lone Star Football League

The Rio Grande Valley's lone professional football team will be announcing its membership to the Lone Star Football League on Thursday at 1:00 pm.
The press conference will be held at the Fairfield Inn & Suites located at 10th and Wichita St in McAllen, TX.
Logo, Team Colors, and Staff will be announced along with a few player signings.

LSFL Championship Game To Also Feature Concerts

Pre-game festivities to the first Texas Shoot Out, the Lone Star Football League's championship game on July 21 at Foster Communications Coliseum, will feature two concerts performed by three top-selling artists.
All-inclusive tickets for tailgating activities, the concerts and the game are available beginning July 2 for $25 at Bug Express, 2210 Austin St.; the McNease Convention Center, 500 Rio Concho Drive; Blair's Western Wear, 4230 Sherwood Way; and Goodfellow Air Force Base's ITT office; online at sanangelotexas.us/civicevents; or by calling (325) 658-6464. Tickets to the game only are $15. Tickets to the concert only are $25.
A tailgating party that includes a chili cook-off, inflatable bounce houses for children, and more will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, July 20, in the Foster Communications Coliseum parking lot, 50 E. 43rd St. The party will be followed at 8 p.m. by a Texas country music concert headlined by Zach Edwards in the Coliseum.
A Big Lake native, Edwards released his second album, "LoneStar," on June 3. His first album, "Cowboy Crew," yielded the hit, "You Look Better on MySpace."
The tailgating continues on game day, Saturday, July 21. Doors to the Coliseum will open at 3:30 p.m. for a concert featuring native San Angeloan and pop star Paula Deanda and the Paulitics, and the hip-hop duo the Ying Yang Twins.
Deanda was signed to an Arista Records contract by famed record exec Clive Davis. In 2006, she released her self-titled debut album, spawning a top 20 hit, "Walk Away (Remember Me)." Deanda will also sing the national anthem and perform during halftime of the game.
The Ying Yang Twins are best known for party anthems and top 40 hits such as "Salt Shaker," "What's Happ'nin!," "Shake" and "Badd." The New Orleans Saints play their song "Halftime" after most touchdowns. The Twins released a greatest hits album in 2009. Their new single, "Fist Pump, Jump Jump," will be released on iTunes on July 3.
Deanda and the Ying Yang Twins will be available to sign autographs for fans.
Playing indoor pro football, the Lone Star Football League consists of six teams: the Abilene Ruff Riders, the West Texas Roughnecks of Midland/Odessa, the Amarillo Venom, the Corpus Christi Hammerheads, the Laredo Rattlesnakes and the Rio Grande Valley Magic.
League Commissioner Darlene Jones is a San Angelo businesswoman who owned San Angelo's last pro football franchise, the Stampede Express.
The game will serve as a kickoff to San Angelo's new team, the Bandits, who will hit the field inside Foster Communications Coliseum in the spring of 2013. The Bandits will be selling season tickets and corporate sponsorships at The Texas Shoot-out.

West Texas Roughnecks Prepare For Breast Cancer Awareness Night

The West Texas Roughnecks have teamed up with Odessa Regional Medical Center for their game this Saturday versus the Amarillo Venom which is Breast Cancer Awareness Night. This yearly event has traditionally been known to be one of the biggest home games if not the biggest home game of the year. The Roughnecks and ORMC have joined together to provide the first 1000 fans a PINK BALL CAP in honor of Breast Cancer awareness. At halftime and post game the Roughnecks will auction off game worn pink themed jerseys and all proceeds will go to American Cancer Society and Susan G Komen foundation. "I am proud to hold such a worthwhile fundraiser and it just goes to show that our organization can be utilized in raising money not only for such a cause as this, but it further shows our continued commitment to giving back to our community", boasted Owner Dale Morris. "This is a disease that effects everyone in some way and we hope to raise at least $2,000 for the research and someday a cure for this devastating disease", Morris further stated that each year the Roughnecks organization strives to exceed the following years donation. Odessa Regional Medical Center have graciously donated 10 mamograms to be given away at Saturday's game. Aaron Glenn, Former NFL Cornerback Announced As Houston Stallions' New GM

The Houston Stallions indoor football team last week announced former Houston Texan and 3-time NFL pro-bowler, Aaron Glenn as its new General Manager.
Aaron Glenn is a local icon in professional football - from a Houston area superstar at Nimitz High School in the early 90's and a college standout at Texas A M University, Glenn went as a first round draft pick to the National Football League, (NFL) in 1994. This native Houstonian completed a fifteen-year career in the NFL, playing for the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. Among Glenn's many accomplishments in professional football, he was selected to play in the NFL's prestigious Pro-Bowl three times and is today a member of the Texans Legends "" recognized as one of the greatest players ever to play for our Houston Texans.
