The
New Orleans VooDoo kicked off the 2013 season with their second annual
Preauxs vs. Jeauxs charity flag football event at Pan-American Stadium
in City Park last Saturday afternoon.
The
event raised money for the local Miracle League of Greater New Orleans,
an organization designed to offer disabled children the chance to play
in recreational sports. In all there were three flag football games to
entertain a full crowd, as well as giveaways that included autographed
footballs and two season tickets for 2013.
The
first game pitted the VooDoo Dolls against the Ameriprise Financial
women's team. Ameriprise was the presenting sponsor of the event. The
first half was a grinding defensive battle with no score, but the Dolls
took over the second half with a touchdown on their third trip to the
red zone and a pick six. The Dolls shut out Ameriprise Financial 12-0
with the help of four turnovers. The Dolls later treated the crowd to a
short performance during halftime of the third game.
The
second game featured a mix of VooDoo players and children from Miracle
League in a fun-for-all competition. This game featured big plays by the
kids, including a 60-yard score and a 40-yard fumble return.
The
marquee matchup of the afternoon was the Preauxs vs. Jeauxs with VooDoo
players taking on the Ameriprise men's team. The Preauxs jumped out to
an 18-0 lead in the first half, but the Jeauxs didn't quit as they cut
the lead to 18-6 after an electrifying quarterback scramble in the red
zone for a touchdown. The Jeauxs also had a late interception, but the
Preauxs were too much for them as they finished the game with an 80-yard
bomb for the game's final touchdown to make the score 26-6.
The
big winners of today's event were the kids of Miracle League. The
organization garnered the proceeds from ticket sales and concessions.
Preauxs vs. Jeauxs was a fun family event for all ages ahead of the 2013
regular season, which begins in the New Orleans Arena on March 24.

New Orleans VooDoo Coaching Staff Solidified
The
New Orleans VooDoo front office announces the 2013 Coaching Staff. The
coaching staff includes: Head Coach Pat O'Hara; Defensive Coordinator
Nick Ward; and Special Teams Coordinator, Assistant Defensive
Coordinator and Line Coach Doug Miller.
Coach O'Hara enters his second season as head football coach of the New Orleans VooDoo. Prior to joining the VooDoo, O'Hara previously headed up the Orlando Predators for two seasons.
The AFL great's quarterbacking career began between the walls in 1995 with the Predators, and before it ended, O'Hara would lead two different teams to five ArenaBowls that included claiming the crown three times.
In the offseason, O'Hara serves as a consultant on movies and has worked on The Longest Yard, Invincible, We Are Marshall and The Game Plan, while appearing in The Waterboy and Any Given Sunday.
"Coach O'Hara and the coaching staff he chose made a huge improvement in the players he brought to New Orleans and their performances in 2012. He's taking it up a notch in 2013," said VooDoo Owner Dan Newman. "Nick Ward is one of the best defensive minds in the AFL, and we are fortunate to have him."
The VooDoo has gained former Cleveland Gladiator Defensive Backs Coach Nick Ward. Ward began his first season coaching in the AFL with the Gladiators in 2011. He also brings ten years of AFL playing experience (2000-2010) to Coach O'Hara's staff.
Miller also enters his second season with the New Orleans VooDoo. Previously, Miller spent two seasons with the Predators under the wing of Coach O'Hara's. Miller also served as the Head Coach for the Orlando Fantasy of the Lingerie Football League in 2010 and 2011.
Prior to hanging up his cleats, Miller played two seasons with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons and enjoyed an outstanding 7-year playing career with the AFL's Predators.

White House Recognizes Voodoo's "Preauxs vs Jeauxs" Charity Event
The
First and Second Families issued a call to action, asking all Americans
to join together in service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. As part of the 57th Presidential Inauguration, the 2013
Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) is encouraging all Americans to
participate in a National Day of Service on Saturday, January 19, by
signing up on the PIC's new webpage: www.2013pic.org/service .
In 2009, President Obama and the First Lady started the tradition of holding a National Day of Service the weekend before the swearing-in. President Obama has always believed that everyone has something they can contribute to their community, and that America works best when neighbors help neighbors. Volunteers are organizing service events in all 50 states and the PIC will host a major service fair on the National Mall. Events are organized into seven service themes: Community Resilience, Economic Development, Education, Environment, Faith, Health, and Veterans and Military Families. The First and Second Families will also participate in service events in the Washington, D.C. area. Americans can find an event or sign up to host their own at the National Day of Service webpage .

New Orleans VooDoo To Hold Open Tryouts On January 20
The
New Orleans VooDoo will hold its second open tryout of the 2013 season
on Sunday, January 20 at Pan American Stadium in City Park. Registration
will begin at 9 a.m. with the tryout starting at 10 a.m.
Registration fee for all trying out will be $60 and due at the registration table prior to participating in the work out. The registration fee is non-refundable, and only cash will be accepted as a form of payment. Kickers WILL NOT be worked out at this tryout.
"Last year, we had a very talented crop of athletes attend our tryouts, and we invited two players from the tryouts to come to training camp with us," said VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara. "Louisiana produces so many talented and gifted athletes, and we are hoping to find those hidden gems, and those who are looking for an opportunity to showcase themselves."
In addition to the registration fee, all participants will need to bring outdoor cleats to wear on a field turf surface, and other proper athletic attire for the outdoors. The tryout will consist of testing that includes the 40-yard dash and 20-yard short shuttle followed by specific arena football drills.
Those attending the tryout from outside the metro area and are looking for a hotel should contact the Ramada Inn in Metairie (504-835-4141) for special rates. The Ramada Inn has set aside a block of hotel rooms at a special rate while supplies last.

The 2013 New Orleans VooDoo Dolls Selected
Hundreds of patrons were in attendance at the
Esplanade Mall on Saturday afternoon for the New Orleans VooDoo Doll
Finals. The franchise is very pleased to announce that 17 young ladies
have been selected to represent the franchise for the 2013 season as
VooDoo Dolls.
“I’ve always heard that in these auditions they already know who they want before Finals, that was so not the case, it literally went down to the wire from day 1 up to Finals and was no easy task,” said VooDoo Doll Director Jasmine Martijn. “However, I narrowed it down to the best of the best across the board.”
All 17 ladies selected as 2013 VooDoo Dolls are from Louisiana. Of the 17 selected, 8 are veterans, having danced for the team last year or in years prior.
“I’m ecstatic with the Dolls I have selected, and I know they will rock,” said Martijn. “I can’t wait for us to work in preparing for the upcoming 2013 season.”

The New Orleans VooDoo Welcome Nick Ward as Defensive Coordinator
The
New Orleans VooDoo gains former Cleveland Gladiator Defensive Backs
Coach, Nick Ward, as Defensive Coordinator, announced the front office
on November 16th.
Nick Ward began his first season coaching in the AFL with the Gladiators in 2011, serving as Defensive Backs Coach. He also brings ten years of AFL playing experience to Coach Pat O'Hara's staff.
Ward was an assistant for the Mahoning Valley Thunder of arenafootball2 in 2009. He was in charge of the defensive backs for the Thunder during their final season in the af2.
His knowledge of arena football stems from an extensive playing career of ten seasons in the AFL from 2000-2010. Ward accumulated 190.5 tackles, two forced fumbles, eight interceptions and 25 passes defended in 77 career games. He played for six teams, including three seasons for the Georgia Force.
Ward competed at the highest collegiate level while attending the University of Miami (FL). He was a four-year letterman on the football team (1995, 1997-1999) and also participated on the Hurricanes' track and field squad. Ward played alongside the likes of Ray Lewis, Reggie Wayne and Ed Reed during his tenure in Miami.
"I played against Nick, and he always gave our offense trouble," said VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara. "This led to an appreciation, and we are thankful and happy to have him. He will be a great addition and will fit in well."
Ward is a native of Dallas, Texas and currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

In just one season at the helm, O'Hara guided the VooDoo to just the franchise's second playoff berth in its history. Counting team and individual records, O'Hara set over 40 new franchise benchmarks.
In 2012, O'Hara took the VooDoo from a league-worst 3-15 record in 2011 to the 2012 playoffs. O'Hara -- who came to New Orleans from the Orlando Predators in 2011 after guiding the team to back-to-back postseason appearances -- has been to the AFL playoffs for three consecutive seasons.
"I love New Orleans and the fans," said O'Hara. "I am very glad that I am able to continue representing the city as the head coach of the New Orleans VooDoo. Last season we made strides, but I am ready to take this franchise to the next level."

New Orleans VooDoo Head Coach O'Hara Making Progress in Recovery from Staph Infection
New
Orleans VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara continues to make progress after
suffering a post-operation staph infection in his knee and is recovering
at home with his family in Orlando.
O'Hara's most recent step to normalcy came yesterday when he was taken off of a once-a-day antibiotic drip and will now be on an oral antibiotic regiment.
"I am excited to be making progress, but all of the credit goes to my family. My wife, Billie, has been great throughout this entire process and I can't thank her, my friends and all of the people that have reached out to me during this trying time," said O'Hara.
O'Hara underwent a routine knee scope in late July, and a week later O'Hara found himself back in the hospital with a staph infection. He then went through two additional surgeries to help rid his body of the infection.
He was discharged from Tulane Hospital on Thursday, August 16, and his recovery process began.
"Aside from the antibiotic drip I was on non-stop, I have been going to rehab twice a day, five times a week for the knee that I had operated on. It has been a struggle being on crutches, and hopefully next week I will be walking under my own power," said O'Hara.
As O'Hara always does, he finds the positives in any situation, and two of those things are his sons Tyler and Trace who are playing in the CYFL. With the down time, he has had a lot of opportunities to watch the two play football.
Tyler is following in his father's footsteps as a quarterback, while Trace has been anchoring the offensive line for his team playing left tackle.
"I thoroughly enjoy it," said O'Hara about watching Tyler and Trace play football. "It gives me a chance to be a Dad and not a coach. They make me proud all the time."
O'Hara and his family thank everyone for their support and prayers during this time.

As O'Hara always does, he finds the positives in any situation, and two of those things are his sons Tyler and Trace who are playing in the CYFL. With the down time, he has had a lot of opportunities to watch the two play football.
Tyler is following in his father's footsteps as a quarterback, while Trace has been anchoring the offensive line for his team playing left tackle.
"I thoroughly enjoy it," said O'Hara about watching Tyler and Trace play football. "It gives me a chance to be a Dad and not a coach. They make me proud all the time."
O'Hara and his family thank everyone for their support and prayers during this time.

New Orleans VooDoo and the Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame have teamed
up for the team's home finale against the Georgia Force on Saturday,
July 21 to assist New Orleans Metro Area children with school supplies.
VooDoo fans are asked to bring school supplies to the game. For every item donated, a fan will be entered in a raffle to win a VooDoo gift basket. The VooDoo gift basket will consist of a signed football and replica jersey by the VooDoo team, two ArenaBowl XXV tickets, along with other items that are must haves!
"We are excited about partnering with the Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame and the Guardians Institute for this noble cause. With many of our players and staff from the local area, we know the challenges that we face, which is why we have decided to partner up to help get our future leaders what they need to succeed in school," said Brandon Rizzuto, New Orleans VooDoo Vice President.

New Orleans VooDoo Answer Young Boy's Dream
Last
Saturday, when the New Orleans VooDoo played the Jacksonville Sharks in
The Graveyard, 21 players ran out of the tunnel. But, there was no one
more special than 8-year-old Alex Oxford.
Alex was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) in May 2012. ALD is an incurable disease that affects the brain in boys and men. This disease destroys the myelin, which is a protective layer that surrounds the brains' neurons. Without this layer, the brain cannot function properly. Those diagnosed with ALD also have a 98 percent chance to have Addison-Schilder's disease.
"There are no words to describe this situation," Carissa Oxford, Alex's mother, said. "Your entire world is flipped upside down, and I just need to stay strong and have faith in God."
Before Alex was diagnosed with ALD, he was misdiagnosed for ADHD back in 2010. Doctors prescribed Alex every ADHD medication, but nothing worked. The Oxford family realized something was wrong when Alex suddenly got sick while he and his dad went to go get baseball equipment.
"Alex normally gets real car sick," Carissa said. "But, this time, he got sick a second time and couldn't talk or walk so we knew something was wrong."
Two weeks later, Alex got sick again at school and Alex and his family went straight to Children's Hospital in New Orleans. Results stated that he had a seizure, and the white matter of this brain was inflamed. Alex had a discharged diagnosis on April 23 and had pending blood work with ADEM vs. ALD. Alex was diagnosed with ALD on May 9, 2012.
Although Alex may be diagnosed with ALD, it doesn't stop him from being the 8-year-old boy who loves sports. Alex got the opportunity to go out on the field and be a part of the coin toss for the VooDoo and the Sharks game in The Graveyard.
"I picked tales and the VooDoo won the toss," Alex said. "Whenever I walked on the field I thought it was going to be real grass! Throwing the coin was awesome, but my favorite part was when I got to go in the suites."
Not only did Alex flip the coin before the game, but he also got to go in the locker room and meet some of the VooDoo players and the coach, play on the field, and run out of the tunnel and out onto the field with JLB Alvin Ray Jackson.
"I enjoyed spending time with him," Jackson said. "We got to throw the football before the game, and I took him to meet some of the guys. I wanted to do whatever I could for him to enjoy himself, and I think I had more fun than he did."
Alex's family was very grateful for the opportunity for Alex to be part of the VooDoo family for last week's game.
"It really meant a lot to him," Gene Oxford, Alex's father, said. "It was our first game, and it made Alex feel personal and warm inside."
Alex and his family also got the chance to go to Disney World for the first time thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation. Alex's dream of playing football with quarterback Drew Brees also came true this year.
"Alex's dream was to throw a football with Drew Brees," Carissa said. "It was amazing to watch that dream come true. I don't think I've ever seen his face that bright, and nothing could take that glory away."
For the Oxford family, their main focus is to spend as much time as they can with Alex. Alex and his family will travel to Minnesota this week because Alex is a candidate for a bone marrow transplant, which will do one of two things. It will either halt the disease or speed up the disease by two years. This will be the third trip to Minnesota for Alex and his parents, and they will be there for three to six months.

New Orleans VooDoo To Host Halftime Dodgeball Match this Saturday

Saturday, June 30, the New Orleans VooDoo and PLAYNOLA have teamed up
once again for a 6-on-6 dodgeball match at halftime where the VooDoo
will take on the Jacksonville Sharks. The halftime dodgeball game will
feature the PLAYNOLA all-stars and local WGNO ABC 26 news personalities.
The VooDoo (7-7) and the Sharks (7-7) will kickoff at 7 p.m. on Saturday night in The Graveyard, with the halftime dodgeball game being another reason to come out and watch the VooDoo continue its march to the 2012 postseason.

Live NFL Network Broadcasts to Resume on Friday
Live
broadcasts of “NET10 Arena Football Friday” will resume this Friday on
NFL Network, the Arena Football League office announced today.
NFL Network suspended live broadcasts of “NET10 Arena Football Friday” games on May 11 in favor of tape-delayed broadcasts due to labor uncertainty. The decision came in the middle of the third year of partnership between the AFL and NFL Network.
After the announcement of a multi-year agreement between the AFL and AFLPU on Sunday evening, Arena Football League action will now return to its regular timeslot at 8 p.m. ET on NFL Network. Details of the CBA will be released during this Friday’s broadcast.
The Orlando Predators (2-11) will host the New Orleans VooDoo (6-7) in VooDoo Head Coach Pat O’Hara’s return to “The Jungle” this week on “NET10 Arena Football Friday”. All remaining NFL Network broadcasts will be aired live, culminating in AVITAE ArenaBowl XXV on Friday, August 10th.

VooDoo and Predators Set for Net10 NFL Network Game of the Week
The
New Orleans VooDoo (3-5) will look to get back into the win column
against the Orlando Predators (1-7) this Friday night in The Graveyard
for the NET10 NFL Network Game of the Week. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
This game marks the first of back-to-back games in The Graveyard for the VooDoo with next week's contest coming against the Arizona Rattlers (6-3). This week's game is also the first time VooDoo Head Coach Pat O'Hara will be going up against his former team, a franchise he spent the past two seasons as a head coach and six years as a player.
"I don't get caught up in all of that," said O'Hara about the game. "This is an important division game for us and I am more focused on our team and how we perform. Plus, we are on NFL Network again, so it is another chance to showcase our team to the nation."
The VooDoo is coming off a 68-62 overtime loss last week at the Spokane Shock. In the game, VooDoo QB Kurt Rocco became the franchise's first passer to throw for over 400 yards in a game with 402 in the loss. Rocco enters this week's game averaging 311.2 passing yards a game, ranking second in the AFL.
New Orleans also showcases one of the League's best defenses by leading the AFL in turnover margin (+12) and red zone defense. The Predators enter this week's contest sporting the AFL's last ranked pass offense, averaging 216.6 yards per game.
However, the Predators struggle in the passing game is countered with the team's strong defense that ranks fifth in the AFL, only yielding 270.9 yards per game to opposing offenses. Orlando lost 55-31 to the Tampa Bay Storm last time out on the turf, and was idle last week.
"They are a solid team and their record is a bit deceiving," added O'Hara about Orlando. "The South Division is such a wild division that anything is possible. I fully expect a hard-fought game on both sides Friday night."
Orlando leads the series 7-3 with all three New Orleans wins coming in The Graveyard. Last season, the Predators swept the season series en route to a post-season berth.

New Orleans VooDoo: 21 Questions with VooDoo Mascot Mojo

know I usually post articles that are more business and marketing
centered but I have a soft spot for mascots. In fact when I go on a
sports road trip I try to get my picture taken with as many mascots as
possible. This might be a series of interviews with different mascots

MOJO: "Most embarrassing? I run around every game with no pants on; it doesn't get much more embarrassing than that!"

MOJO: "From Airplane: 'Surely you can't be serious?' 'I am serious.and don't call me Shirley'"
CL: What do you like to do on your off days?
MOJO: "I like to just spend time with my best friends Bones, Kelly, Gumbo, Hugo, Sir Saint, Boudreaux, and Clotile.we always manage to get into something fun!"

It's a combination of the 'Dirty Bird', the 'Icky Shuffle', and several other well-known TD celebrations. Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, and Chad Ochocinco haven't seen anything yet!!"
CL: Theme parks or waterparks, and why?
MOJO: "Theme parks absolutely. I look like a wet dog when I go to the waterpark and the sun doesn't do Bones any favors, so we try to stay away."
CL: What's the one thing you'd like to change most about the world?
MOJO: World peace.that alone would solve so many of the problems we have today.
CL: What's your most valued possession?
MOJO: "I don't know if this counts, but there is nothing I value more than bringing a smile to the face of one of our younger VooDoo fans."

MOJO: "You kidding? I'm a fantastic cook, just ask Bones! I've actually been thinking of getting onto one of those competition shows on The Food Network.I can see it now, Mojo vs. Chef Paul Prudhomme vs. Emeril Lagasse!"

MOJO: "Never give up on your dreams. Where there's a will, there's a way and you can do anything you set out to accomplish. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."

VooDoo Meet Talons on NET10 NFL Network Game of the Week
The
New Orleans VooDoo (2-2) will make the trek to take on the San Antonio
Talons (2-2) on Friday for the NET10 NFL Network Game of the Week.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. for the nationally televised game.
The VooDoo is currently riding a two-game winning streak, marking the first time since 2008 that the team has strung together back-to-back wins. The team is also fresh off of ending “The Graveyard Curse” with a 66-47 victory at home against division rival Tampa Bay Storm.
The Graveyard Curse is the nickname given to the franchise’s 12-game home losing streak that dated back to 2008 – the second longest home drought in AFL history to the Carolina Cobras 16-game home losing streak over the course of three seasons (2002, 2003 and 2004)
“It was great to get that home win for our fans last week,” said VooDoo Head Coach Pat O’Hara. “The team feed off of the fans energy, and it got loud in The Graveyard. We thank our fans for their support, and we are going to need them the rest of the way.”
In the win, the VooDoo were aided by two 26-point quarters that included a shutout second quarter. The VooDoo defense recorded four turnovers in the win, with none bigger than Jeremy Kellem’s interception that he returned 39-yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Kellem, who leads the VooDoo with 28.5 total tackles, was honored by the AFL this week for his interception return touchdown as the Spalding Highlight of the Week.
“Our defense is playing at a high-level right now, and our offense has done a good job not turning over the ball,” said O’Hara. “We will have arguably our toughest test yet this weekend when we go to play Aaron Garcia and San Antonio.”
Aaron Garica led Jacksonville to an ArenaBowl XXIV to a championship last season, and has guided the Talons this season with 1,244 yards passing and 27 touchdowns. Garcia comes into the game having thrown for over 50,000 yards and 1,000 touchdowns – both AFL records – in his 18-year AFL career.
Garcia’s 1,000th career touchdown pass came in the team’s most recent game against the San Jose Sabercats when he connected with Robert Quiroga on a 47-yard pass in the first quarter.
“They are good; there is no question about that,” said O’Hara about San Antonio. “I have a lot of respect for their team, and no that it is going to take another strong showing from our team on national television.”
The VooDoo counters with quarterback Kurt Rocco who is currently the League’s No. 1 passer, averaging 333.8 yards/game. Rocco, who is in his second year in the AFL, has a host of receivers at his disposal with L.J. Castile leading the pack for the VooDoo with 26 receptions for 315 yards and 7 touchdowns. Castile is coming off of his first 100-yard receiving game of his AFL career.
As a team, the VooDoo ranks second in pass offense (321.2 yards/game), third in total offense (338.5 yards/game) and fourth in pass efficiency (124.6). The team is also first in the AFL in turnover margin (+9).

VooDoo and Tampa Bay Storm Battle on Net 10 NFL Network Game of the Week Friday

New Orleans VooDoo (1-2) will host the Tampa Bay Storm (2-1) this
Friday, April 6, in the Graveyard at 7:00 p.m., as they look to build on
to end the curse in The Graveyard. The game will be televised
nationally by NFL Network as the NET 10 Game of the Week.
The VooDoo collected their first victory of the season on Saturday, as they defeated the Utah Blaze on the road, 72-57. Kurt Rocco set new career and franchise records with his 373 yards passing and 9 touchdowns. Rocco has now passed for over 300 yards in all three games this season.
Greg Ellingson's breakout season continued, as he hauled in 11 catches for 167 yards and four touchdowns - all new career marks.
"Last week was a good win and confidence builder for our team," said O'Hara. "Our opponent this week (Tampa Bay) is another really good and disciplined team. It is also a rivalry game and will be on NFL Network, which makes the stakes even higher."
The VooDoo trailed 44-40 midway through the 3rd quarter when an 8-yard touchdown pass from Rocco to Ellingson put the team up for good. The Blaze cut the lead to 60-57 early in the fourth quarter, but Utah's final three drives ended with VooDoo interceptions.
In all, the VooDoo turned the Blaze over 7 times, with 5 interceptions and 2 lost fumbles. Linebacker Alvin Ray Jackson hauled in 3 of those errant passes, and was subsequently named the Riddell Defensive Player of the Week, the League office announced on Tuesday.
As the VooDoo return home this Friday looking to end a 12-game home losing streak, Rocco, Ellingson and the New Orleans aerial attack will have their work cut out for them, as the Storm come to New Orleans boasting the league's fourth best pass defense, allowing an average of just 244 yards passing per game.
The VooDoo counters the Storm with the league's top-ranked offense and second ranked passing attack. All eyes will certainly be glued to the field when Tampa's defense attempts to slow the VooDoo offense, which has steadily improved each week.
"We have steadily gotten better, but we are not where we need to be," added O'Hara. "Our team has prepped all week knowing that Tampa Bay is a tough divisional opponent, and we are going to need another strong performance from our team."

New Orleans VooDoo Suite Owner Donates Tickets To Teachers

a way of showing gratitude and appreciation for our local teachers, New
Orleans VooDoo suite owner Darius Shad of Techcrane donated his suite
tickets to Ella Dolhonde Elementary School's teachers and staff for
Sunday's game versus the Philadelphia Soul.
Ella Dolhonde teachers participated in the first annual Preauxs versus Jeauxs Charity Flag Football Event on January 27, and helped raise over $5,000 for the charitable cause. More than half of the proceeds went to Ella Dolhonde to purchase books for its new library.
Of the money raised at the event, Techcrane owner Darius Shad donated $1,000 to the cause.
"My mother is a former public school teacher and as a result, I have a lot of love and admiration for our teachers," said Shad. "When I found out I would not be able to attend the game, I wanted to give the suite to the teachers. They worked very hard to make Preauxs versus Jeauxs a success and deserve to be rewarded."
Preauxs versus Jeauxs featured two flag football games with Ella Dolhonde teachers and Dolls being divided up into two teams for the first game. The Dolls and teachers had two practices leading up to the flag football game, and come game time, the competitiveness between both squads was high.
Team Monogram Express (gray) was heavily favored in the game, but it was Team VooDooStuff.com (blue) pulling the upset with an 18-6 victory. VooDooStuff.com was led by VooDoo Doll Brittney H. by completing 11-of-13 pass for 97 yards and 3 touchdowns.
"It was a great event for the New Orleans VooDoo to give back our local community and have a lot of fun in the process," said VooDoo Vice President Brandon Rizzuto, who served as offensive coordinator of Team VooDooStuff.com. "The Dolls and teachers had a blast and so did all the staff and players that were involved. The event could not have been a success without people like Darius Shad, seeing a need to help our local schools. We hope to make this an annual event, helping out our schools in the area fundraise for specific needs that will enhance education."

New Orleans Welcomes AFL HOF Coach Tim Marcum To Staff
Pending Arena Football League approval, Marcum is set to become the VooDoo’s Associate Head Coach under O’Hara.
“Coach Marcum will be a huge asset to our franchise as we move further along in building a winning team,” said VooDoo Head Coach Pat O’Hara. “Marcum is a first-class coach and person, who I can honestly say is like a father-figure to me, and I know that our organization can only benefit with his involvement.”
Marcum has been an AFL fixture since the league’s inception in 1987, holding a 211-99 career coaching mark that is coupled with 7 ArenaBowl Championships out of the 10 times his teams reached the big game.
“I am excited about not only being in New Orleans and also being back in the AFL, but I am most importantly excited about being reunited with Pat,” said Marcum. “Pat was a great player, is a great coach, and is an even better person. I cherish this opportunity to work with him again.”
O’Hara played for Marcum in Tampa Bay from 2003 to 2006, transitioning into the team’s offensive coordinator in his final year of suiting up. O’Hara served as Marcum’s offensive coordinator for the 2007 and 2008 seasons before O’Hara took the head coaching position with the Los Angeles Avengers; however, the AFL went on hiatus before O’Hara ever coached a game.
Together, the duo of O’Hara and Marcum from 2003 to 2008 had a 45-35 regular season record that included three playoff berths and the ArenaBowl XVII Championship.
Marcum’s most recent AFL tour of duty took place in Tampa Bay, serving as the team’s head coach from 1995 to 2010. With the Storm, Marcum had a 140-77 regular season record and a 16-10 postseason mark over 15 seasons, winning 5 of the 7 ArenaBowls that he coached in during that span.
His prior stops before settling in with the Storm include the Detriot Drive from 1988 to 1993 and the Denver Dynamite in the League’s inaugural season in 1987.
The Snyder, Texas native is a two-time AFL Coach of the Year recipient, winning the award in 1987 and 1998. In 1998, he was also inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame and still stands as the only coach in the League’s history to lead three different franchises to ArenaBowl appearances.
Marcum will be available for questioning at the team’s media day on Monday afternoon at the Alario Center.
