Philadelphia Soul Player Awarded Department of Defense "Seven Seals Award"

Philadelphia Soul Arena Football player, Morkeith Brown was recognized by the EMPLOYER SUPPORT OF THE GUARD AND RESERVE (ESGR) with a "Seven Seals Award" for helping to bring awareness to the service and sacrifice of America's military members and to promote the hiring of citizen soldiers and veterans by the business community.

The award, depicting the heraldry seals of the seven military services, is given at the discretion of the ESGR State Chairman to recognize the efforts by a citizen, business, or organization, whose supportive actions have benefited all of the Guard/Reserve components and the U.S. Armed Forces in a significant manner.

ESGR is a mostly volunteer, Department of Defense agency which seeks to create a culture where American employers value and support the military service of their Guard and Reserve employees. They recognize outstanding support, increase awareness of the law, and resolve conflicts through mediation.

New Jersey ESGR Committee Chairman Col. Alan Smith (Ret.) USMC presented the award to the Philadelphia Soul linebacker at the Coliseum Sports Center, following a regularly scheduled practice, on Wednesday, May 1st.

Morkeith Brown served with the United States Army in Afghanistan in 2005 and his awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal and the Support of Operation Enduring Freedom Medal.

As part of the Philadelphia Soul and The Judge Group's (a global professional services firm) June 22 Military Appreciation Night at the Wells Fargo Center, Brown will be assisting in the selection of veterans and military members to play in the first ever Army-Navy Veterans Arena Football game. All branches of the Armed Forces are eligible to play including guardsmen, reservists and veterans.

The day, set aside for patriotic-awareness, will also include a "Speed Career Net-Working Event" exclusively for transitioning military service members, wounded warriors, veterans and military spouses from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center's Cadillac Grille.

Following the award presentation, Col. Alan Smith reflected, "Morkeith Brown is a wonderful example of determination and gentlemanly character."

Army-Navy Football To Get An AFL Twist

The Philadelphia Soul and The Judge Group are joining forces to stage an Army-Navy Veterans Arena Football Game on June 22 at the Wells Fargo Center.

The game — which will feature teams made up of active reservists, and veterans — will be part of the Philadelphia Soul’s “Military Appreciation Night” game against Iowa.

The game between the two branches is being played to help raise awareness about the need for employment opportunities for veterans. Veterans will have the opportunity to network with Philadelphia-area employees and receiving transitioning assistance during the event in a program being led by The Judge Group’s newest division, Judge Veterans in Professional Careers.

Martin E. Judge Jr., a minority owner of the Soul, is CEO of The Judge Group, a professional services firm based in West Conshohocken, Pa.

The event will begin with at “Stars and Stripes Fan Fest” from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., which will include military interactive areas and displays as well as live entertainment.

Tryouts for the Army vs. Navy Veterans Arena Football Game will be held on May 4 and May 12 at the Pinelands Sports Center in Southampton, NJ. Philadelphia Soul’s Marketing Deal With Stopain Maker Troy Has Synergy

The Philadelphia Soul added another marketing partner this week.
Troy Healthcare signed a sponsorship agreement for the 2013 Arena Football League season.
The Hazelton, Pa., company is the maker of Stopain, a line of topical analgesic pain relief products for people suffering from arthritis, muscle aches and back pain.
Soul co-majority owner Ron Jaworski, the former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and current ESPN analyst, also recently signed a deal to be the national spokesperson for Stopain.
Financial terms for the deals were not disclosed.
Troy Healthcare’s sponsorship agreement with the Soul includes brand visibility for Stopain at Philadelphia Soul games, plus “significant” opportunities for product sampling with fans.

Philadelphia Soul Endorses Indoor Gridiron League For Year Two

The American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul and the Indoor Gridiron League (IGL), through JAKIB Media LLC, announce agreement of a partnership for the 2nd Season that continues the first semi-pro indoor football league in the country that has the direct endorsement of a professional football team.
The IGL is a developmental indoor football league consisting of twelve teams (Expanding from nine teams in Year One) and a 12-week season that will run from April through July 2013. Part of the relationship with the Soul will include:
. IGL teams will have an opportunity to play games at The Wells Fargo Center following a home Soul game in 2013
. IGL players will get a VIP Soul season ticket
. IGL players receive a private tryout in front of members of the Soul coaching staff

"Without semi-pro football, there would be no Arena Football League," said AFL commissioner Jerry Kurz last season when the Partnership was created. "Nearly 100 percent of the players used in the original test games of Arena Football were taken from minor league teams. This is an opportunity for players that didn't make the league's limited roster spaces to hone their skills and continue to play football to get to the next level."

Bogle Makes Return To Philadelphia Soul

The American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul announce the addition of Phil Bogle as assistant head coach and line coach for the 2013 season. Bogle joins head coach, Clint Dolezel's staff and makes his second appearance on the Soul coaching staff.
Bogle, who previously coached with the Soul in the 2011 season as the line coach, helped coach the No. 2 best overall defense (269.4), No. 2 best rushing defense (15.7), and No. 3 best pass defense (253.7) of the AFL. He played as a lineman for the team in 2007-08. He won All-Rookie team and First-team All-Arena in 2007. In 2008, he won First-Team All-Arena again, and the ArenaBowl XXII Championship. He was a finalist for the League's Lineman of the Year award.
"Bogle is a fan favorite and was a great asset for us," said Dolezel. "Phil not only brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Soul, but hopefully another championship ring. We are counting on him to help develop our "˜bigs' up front into a dominant force on both sides of the ball in our quest for ArenaBowl XXVI in Orlando."
In 2010, Bogle played for the Dallas Vigilantes as a guard/tight end. While there, he recorded four receptions for 19 yards, one touchdown, and one tackle. He has also spent time in the CFL with the Montreal Alouettes (2009), in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2006 and "˜08), Cleveland Browns (2005), San Diego Chargers (2003) and in the NFL Europe with the Hamburg Sea Devils (2006).
Bogle spent his collegiate career at the University of New Haven (1999-2002) as an offensive tackle. The two-season captain was a First-Team Division II All-Independent selection as a senior in 2002 and the winner of the Jim Langer Award. He also received the 2003 New Haven Male Athlete of the Year and the 2002 Cactus Bowl MVP awards.

Philadelphia Soulmates Last Open Call January 27

The Philadelphia Soul announce the last open call tryout for the 2013 Soulmates Dance Team that will be held on Sunday, January 27 at XFINITY Live! Philadelphia (1100 Pattison Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19148). The open call audition registration will take place between 8-8:30 a.m. with the audition beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m.

Arena Football League And Soul Preparing For China Experiment

The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League will break new ground this weekend when about a dozen athletes from China will participate in the team’s open tryout Jan. 19 at the Philadelphia Eagles’ NovaCare Complex in South Philadelphia.
The addition of the players from China is part of an effort to bring Arena Football League-style football to that country.
The initiative is being led by Philadelphia Soul President Ron Jaworski, an ESPN commentator and former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, and Marty Judge, also a co-owner of the Soul and the founder and CEO of the Judge Group. The contacts Judge made in Asia through his West Conshohocken, Pa., consulting firm helped facilitate the plan to bring arena football to China.
Tom Goodhines, the Soul’s general manager, said the group of players from China will include some with college football experience and others who are rugby players.
Jaworski, in an interview at his offices at NFL Films in Mount Laurel, N.J., said there are plans have AFL exhibition games in China this fall as a prelude to establishing a six-team, 10-game season featuring a mix of players from China and United States beginning in the fall of 2014.
“It’s an enormous project,” Jaworski said. “We understand that, but the opportunities are tremendous. To grow the game of football and our brand of football in China — it’s something the Nikes and Under Armours of the world are watching very closely.”
A group of Soul executives and others involved in the project plan to travel to China next week to further develop plans. Future plans include representatives from China coming to Philadelphia to tour the Soul’s facilities, and holding a coaching clinic in China to explain the AFL game in greater detail to potential coaches.
At Saturday’s tryout at the NovaCare Complex, Soul Head Coach Clint Dolezel, Goodhines and other staff members will be evaluating all players in attendance.

Parx Casino Will Be Presenting Sponsor Of Philadelphia Soul

Parx Casino has signed a multiyear deal to be presenting sponsor of the Philadelphia Soul for the 2013 and 2014 seasons.
Financial terms of the agreement, which will formally be announced Tuesday, were not disclosed.
The Philadelphia Soul were the Arena Football League’s American Conference Champion last year.
“This deal will allow both of us to co-brand and expand our overall reach in the market,” said John Adams, chief operating officer and vice president of the Soul.
Elements of the partnership will include a newly created co-branded logo uniting both corporate identities. The logo will be featured on all team printed assets such as season tickets, posters, game day programs and pocket schedules, as well as multiple in-arena, community and game television broadcast promotions.
The logo will also be displayed on the uniforms of Chickie’s and Pete’s employees at all restaurant locations.
Chickie’s and Pete’s owner Pete Ciarrocchi is a minority owner of the Soul.
Additionally, the final auditions for the Soulmates Dance Team will be held at 360 inside Parx Casino on Jan. 29. At the event, the new co-branded logo will be unveiled at 6 p.m. and the Soulmates audition will begin at 7 p.m.
The Soul’s last presenting sponsor was Frederick’s Chevrolet on the Boulevard.

Philadelphia Soul To Hold Open Tryout On January 19 At Novacare Complex

The American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul will hold an open player tryout on Saturday, January 19 in the Philadelphia Eagles' NovaCare Complex located at One NovaCare Way, Philadelphia. Soul Head Coach Clint Dolezel, General Manager Tom Goodhines and staff will be evaluating all players in attendance. Kickers will be evaluated at this tryout.
The Soul recently signed two players - wide receiver Tyrone Collins (6'0, 200, Wagner) and wide receiver Ryan McDaniel (6'3, 198, Samford) - from the last tryouts on Oct. 20, 2012.
"This market clearly has the talent," said Goodhines. "We have been impressed by what we have seen in this area over the years and the signing of Tyrone and Ryan shows that we are serious about finding players that will help get us back to the ArenaBowl."
All participants can pre-register before Thursday, January 17 at www.philadelphiasoul.com . The cost of the tryout is $60 for those who pre-register and $80 at the door by cash, money order or certified funds only. A t-shirt will be included in the cost and all fees are non-refundable.
On the day of the tryout, registration will begin at 8 a.m., with stretching starting promptly at 9 a.m.
Players will be tested on their 40-yard time, broad jump and short shuttle with other position-specific drills and one-on-ones to follow. Please bring appropriate workout gear and shoes/cleats. Orlando Predators Name Doug Plank New Head Coach

The Orlando Predators today announced the hiring of two-time Arena Football League Coach of the Year Doug Plank as the team's new head coach and President of Football Operations.
In his first five years as an AFL head coach, Plank has won more games to start his career than any previous coach in AFL history (64-29). He has made two ArenaBowl trips, including leading the American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul to ArenaBowl XXV in 2012. He was also named AFL's Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2007 when he was with the Georgia Force.
"We are thrilled to have Doug Plank join the Orlando Predators organization," said Predators Managing Partner Brett Bouchy. "With Doug's work ethic and passion for the sport of football, I am confident that he can bring the Predators back to our winning tradition and bring an ArenaBowl title home to Orlando."
In addition, the team announced that AFL Hall of Fame Coach Tim Marcum will join the Predators as the team's Associate Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator, marking his 25th year overall coaching in the AFL.
Plank began his coaching career in 2001 as the Arizona Rattlers' defensive coordinator for three seasons, under which the Rattlers made it to three consecutive ArenaBowls. He was hired as head coach of the Georgia Force in 2004, where he led the team to ArenaBowl XIX during his first year with the team, as well as three playoff appearances.
A native of Greensburg, PA, Plank spent eight years as a safety for the NFL's Chicago Bears, where he was the team's first rookie to lead the team in tackles. He was drafted out of Ohio State, where he made three consecutive Rose Bowl appearances under Coach Woody Hayes.
Marcum has been an AFL fixture since the league's inception in 1987, holding a 211-99 career coaching mark, coupled with seven ArenaBowl Championships in the 10 times his teams reached the big game.
"We couldn't be more pleased to welcome Tim to the team," said Bouchy. "He is a legendary coach, and we are confident that he and Doug are going to do great things in Orlando."
Marcum's most recent AFL tour of duty took place in Tampa Bay, where he served as the Storm's head coach from 1995 to 2010. With the Storm, Marcum had a 140-77 regular season record and a 16-10 postseason mark over 15 seasons, winning five of the seven ArenaBowls that he coached in during that span.
His prior stops before settling in with the Storm include stints with the Detriot Drive from 1988 to 1993 and the Denver Dynamite in the League's inaugural 1987 season.
The Snyder, Texas native is a two-time AFL Coach of the Year recipient, winning the award in 1987 and 1998. In 1998, he was also inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame and still stands as the only coach in the League's history to lead three different franchises to ArenaBowl appearances.
Orlando's Arena Football League franchise since 1991, the Orlando Predators are heading into their 22nd year in the AFL. In that time, the Predators have advanced to the AFL Playoffs a league-leading 19 seasons and appeared in the Arena Bowl seven times, winning AFL Championships in 1998 and 2000.

The Arena Football League Working On Expansion Into China, With A League By '14

A group fronted by ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski was in Beijing on Monday to announce that the Arena Football League is working on building a foothold in China.
"We're coming to a country that doesn't know much about what American football is, but it's a country that loves sports," Jaworski said. "They will pick up on football very quickly. I watched the Olympics, and watched those weightlifters and I think, I'd like to have some of those guys on my offensive line."
The group will stage a series of exhibitions next fall, then launch what it hopes will be a six-team, 10-game schedule in October 2014. Games will be held in the fall and winter to allow AFL coaches and trainers the freedom to come to China during their offseason and teach their Chinese counterparts how to build teams on their own.
The league will begin as a mix of Chinese and American players, with the goal of converting to all-Chinese rosters as quickly as possible.
"Our goal is in China, for China," said Marty Judge, a co-owner of the AFL's Philadelphia Soul along with Jaworski. "The NFL went in to Europe and it failed because you need to have (a country's own) players on the teams."
Former NFL coach Dick Vermeil is also backing the project, which has been two years in the making.
Jaworski said he's confident China will latch on to the game.
"There are plenty of Americans who don't understand football, but they still go to the games," he said.

Arena Bowl has Soul, fans to send team off at airport hotel

The Philadelphia Soul, which are headed to New Orleans to take on the Arizona Rattlers in the ArenaBowl XXV, are hosting a send-off party at Aloft Philadelphia Airport Hotel this afternoon from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Soul players, coaches, mascot Soulman, cheerleaders the Soulmates and members of the ownership group will be in attendance as well as the entire front office.
On Friday, the Soul beat the Jacksonville Sharks 89-34 to win the American Conference title in front of 12,332 fans at the Wells Fargo Center, one of the team’s biggest crowds of the year.
The Soul won their first AFL championship, Arena Bowl XXII, in 2008.

ArenaBowl XXV Matchup Is Set

After a 75-69 victory over the Utah Blaze in the National Conference championship game, the Arizona Rattlers (13-5) are headed to New Orleans for a meeting with the Philadelphia Soul (15-3) in AVITAE ArenaBowl XXV.
One of the League’s most storied franchises, the Rattlers are primed for their second consecutive ArenaBowl appearance and seventh championship game in franchise history. After winning the West Division for the second consecutive season, Head Coach KEVIN GUY aims to bring the Foster Trophy back to the Valley for the first time since 1997.
The Soul were crowned ArenaBowl champions the last time New Orleans hosted an ArenaBowl. Four years later, the Big Game is back in the “Big Easy” and Head Coach Doug Plank has his sights set on bringing another pro football championship back to Philadelphia. Guided by Offensive Coordinator Clint Dolezel, the Soul offense put up eye-popping numbers in 2012, becoming the first team in AFL history to begin a season with eight straight 60+ point games. In the 2012 postseason, the Soul took down the New Orleans VooDoo (8-10), 66-53, in the opening rounds and scored an AFL postseason-record 89 points against the defending-champion Jacksonville Sharks (10-8) in the American Conference championship game. Their 55-point margin of victory over the Sharks also represents the largest in AFL postseason history.
The Soul and Rattlers will clash for the first time this season in New Orleans on August 10. Kickoff for AVITAE ArenaBowl XXV is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.

Michael Vick's Team Vick Foundation Donates Soul Tickets to Police Athletic League

The Eastern Division Champion, Philadelphia Soul (16-3) announce that Philadelphia Eagles' QB Michael Vick's Team Vick Foundation has purchased tickets to the Arena Football League American Conference Championship game against the defending champion Jacksonville Sharks (11-8) on Friday, August 3 and donated them to the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia. The game will be broadcast nationally on the NFL Network with kickoff slated for 8 p.m.
"I wish I could be there myself, but I'm working on a Championship of our own for Philadelphia," said Vick. "But, I'm thrilled to be able to bring out the Police Athletic League to enjoy the game. I'll be pulling for the Soul."

Snoop Dogg Event Cancelled for July 28 Philadelphia Soul Game

The Philadelphia Soul's scheduled event featuring Snoop Dogg that was announced to take place at the Arena Football League's first-round playoff game at the Wells Fargo Center between the Soul and New Orleans VooDoo on Saturday, July 28 has been cancelled due to a scheduling conflict. This cancellation includes the halftime performance of Biz Markie.

Philadelphia Soul Bring Back Summer Slam

The Philadelphia Soul will be down at the shore on Saturday, August 18 to host the Seventh Annual Summer Slam in Wildwood, NJ. The event will take place on Schellenger Avenue and the beach from noon to 4 p.m., with the flag football tournament starting at 10 a.m. and running through completion with the net proceeds from Summer Slam to benefit "Lunch with Lynch", a Wildwood-based charity.

Philadelphia Soul Take Over The Buck Hotel

The Arena Football League-leading Philadelphia Soul (14-3) will be holding a "Town Takeover" of Feasterville, PA on Saturday, July 21 from 3-5 p.m. The Town Takeover, presented by Susquehanna Bank, will take place at the Buck Hotel, located at 1200 Buck Road.
The event will be free to the public, and feature a "run-through" practice by the Philadelphia Soul. This will be the team's last practice before the Soul take on the Utah Blaze (12-5) on Sunday, July 22, with kickoff scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center. During the practice, random residents will be asked to participate by "running plays" with the Soul team.
There will be a live band performance before and after the practice. In addition to Soul players and coaches, there will be appearances by the Soul mascot, SoulMan, the Soulmates dance team, Soul ownership and front office staff. After the practice, fans will be able to meet Soul players and Soulmates who will be signing autographs.

Philadelphia Soul to Host Charity Flip Cup Tournament

The Eastern Division Champion Philadelphia Soul (13-3) and Xfinity Live! will host the World's Largest Flip Cup Game for charity Sunday, July 8 at Xfinity Live! before their game against the Spokane Shock.
The flip cup game was initiated as a way to collect as many Red Solo Cups as possible for the Solo Cup Brigade, the Soul's Community Service Initiative for the game July 8.
Proceeds from the cups purchased and turned in will go to the Wilford Hall Fisher House.
The Wilford Hall Fisher House is a home-away-from-home for families of seriously ill or injured service men and women receiving treatment at the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center, San Antonio Military Medical Center or other medical facilities in the San Antonio Area.
To participate in the game players can either donate $1 to receive a Red Solo Cup or bring their own RSC to donate (only Red Solo Cups are valid). Red Solo Cups will be available to the first 500 registrants. Registration will begin at noon outside of Victory Beer Hall where participants will be designated to one of two teams.
In addition to the entry fee donation, the Soul and Xfinity Live! will turn in the Red Solo Cups to Terra Cycle who will give up to $0.10 per cup collected for one large donation to the Wilford Hall Fisher House.
Water will be provided for the game and beer can be used if purchased from Xfinity Live!
After the game is over, participants are invited to stick around and tailgate all the way up to the Soul game at 6:05 p.m. against the Spokane Shock and drop off your Red Solo Cups as you enter the arena to watch the game. The Red Solo Cups will be collected at the Broad St. and 11th St. entrances.

Philadelphia Soul to Host Military Job Fair on Sunday

The Philadelphia Soul and the Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network announce that they will co-host a Military job fair on Sunday, July 8 during the Soul Military Appreciation Night.
"This is a great opportunity for military veterans that are currently searching for work in the Philadelphia area," said Soul COO/VP John Adams. "This is a perfect fit for a night set to honor and support our servicemen and women."
The job fair will take place on the Broad Street Mezzanine level starting at halftime and running through the end of the third quarter. You must have proof of Military service to participate. Up to 10 local companies will be on hand for the job fair including Septa, Prodigal Security, First Financial, CINTAS, New York Life, the Philadelphia Police Department and more.
The Greater Philadelphia Veterans Network is a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to provide pre-employment education and career services to transitioning military service members and local veterans; to ensure veterans have programs and initiatives available to accelerate their job search.
All active and retired military personnel receive a free ticket to the July 8 game with proof of service, including military identification. Family of military servicemen and women will receive a special rate of $20 per ticket. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m.
The night will include a program designed to honor the men and women who fight to preserve our freedom. The program will include an in-game salute of honor to all the servicemen and women in the crowd from Brigadier General John L. Gronski of the Unites States Army. Lieutenant Justin Legg of the US Navy Seals (retired) will wrap up the night with at 20-minute post-game inspirational speech.
