The
Iowa Barnstormers have reached an agreement with Clear Channel
Communications that will make WHO-1040 AM the exclusive radio home of
the Arena Football League franchise for the next three seasons.
Beginning in 2013, all Barnstormers games, both home and away, will be
aired live behind one of the strongest signals in the United States.
“We
are extremely excited to announce our newest partnership with WHO
radio”, stated Barnstormers Team President Jeff Lamberti. “This
agreement will allow us to expand our marketing efforts throughout the
state of Iowa and give us the opportunity to gain new fans. We truly
feel that the Barnstormers are back where we belong.”
The
move should be a popular one with fans of the team. Barnstormers games
had previously aired on WHO from 1995-2001 under the club’s original
ownership. Team officials hope the return to WHO will increase their
fan base, making them more appealing to fans statewide.
“We
are thrilled to have the Iowa Barnstormers back on their original
airway, WHO radio, Clear Channel Communications Regional Market Manager
for Iowa Joel McCrea added. “The Barnstormers understand what we are all
about, and that made this an easy deal to finalize. Iowans love
football and we want to be part of that experience.”
The
2013 Barnstormers season kicks off on Saturday, March 23 when the team
travels east to face the Chicago Rush. The home opener is scheduled for
Friday, April 5th when the Spokane Shock comes to town. Details on who
will be handling the play-by-play duties for all broadcasts are
currently being finalized and will be announced shortly. A major
announcement regarding the Barnstormers weekly radio show will also be
made in the coming weeks.
